Welcome, I’m Megan Tombs

Registered Counsellor | Emotion-Focused Family Therapy Practitioner | Person-Centred | Family-Oriented

I provide a safe and compassionate space where clients are met with empathy, respect, and trust in their ability to move forward. I believe that healing and growth are possible for everyone, especially when we feel supported and understood. My work is based on the premise that relationships marked by safety, empathy, and attunement create a supportive environment for positive change.

I started my adult life as a high school teacher of Japanese, and although I loved my subject, it was working with adolescents that kept my interest in teaching and brought me into the world of counselling. After supporting my own family through many changes, I retrained as a counsellor and started working with adolescents and parents. I work with clients from a person-centred, strength-based approach, using compassion and an aspiration for understanding others’ unique experiences.

Areas I support with include:

•           Caregiver and whānau support for mental health and eating disorders

•           Emotion resilience and communication within families

•           Parenting support and strengthening caregiver roles

•           General counselling for anxiety, stress, and big life changes

•           Integrating FBT principles with EFFT practice to support emotional connection
